Empowering Communities with Web3
Decentralized, autonomous media studios (or DAMS) can supercharge organize work with HitRecord and the Eden community can empower collaborative apps like HitRecord with the power of Web3. Creative communities can make creative decisions with Cignals and Eden+Fractal. DAMS could potentially use ideathons to incentivize great movie ideas and Eden Research to collaborate on projects. There are also so many more synergies between Eden and DAMS that we’re excited to explore more in the future.
Below is an essay that we wrote last year about an excellent app for creative collaboration called HitRecord. The essay is also about helpful communication and the next era of creative collaboration, so it is titled Helpful Communication, HitRecord, and the Second Renaissance. You can read the original post from 2021 here.
Helpful Communication, HitRecord, and the Second Renaissance
Helpful communication is the highest leverage solution to fix all problems. Unhelpful communication is the root cause of all problems.
This is true in both Eden and our world as a whole. It’s also one of the most exciting opportunities for both Eden and our world as a whole. There are so many exciting opportunities in the world right now, but this might be the single most exciting and highest leverage opportunity that humanity has ever seen to make the best experiences possible for everyone in the world.
Helpful communication is our Archimedes Lever to fix all of our problems and make the best experiences possible for everyone in the world. Helpful communication is the tool that gives us the most leverage to fix our problems and improve our experiences.
The Eden community is in an extremely unique position to make huge improvements to communication for every person and community in the world. We are also in an extremely unique position to create efficient idea meritocracies, where everyone is rewarded for helping and the most helpful ideas become the most popular ideas. We are uniquely capable to do this and the world needs Eden to make the best experiences possible for everyone.
Why does the world need Eden to make the best experiences possible for everyone?
Why is Eden uniquely capable of improving communication and governance for everyone in the world? Why can’t Bitcoin, Polkadot, Cardano, Solana, Wax, Telos, or Elrond build efficient idea meritocracies?
First of all, these blockchain communities can greatly help and many will likely be able to do these things independently of Eden within the next few years. There are many very smart people working in each of these communities and we’re all working with programmable blockchain computers, which are the one of the main prerequisite tools needed to enable these immense benefits. Programmable blockchain computers are possibly the most useful tools ever invented and we’ll all have a lot to learn about their incredibly helpful applications in the coming years.
However, none of these other blockchain communities are nearly as well positioned as Eden to so greatly improve communication and spread helpful ideas in the coming months. No other community in the world has the prerequisite combination of factors that put Eden in the perfect position to exponentially improve our ability to communicate.
A magnificent and profoundly helpful 0 to 1 change is coming soon and Eden is in the perfect position to lead the way. This will only happen if we focus our energy to help each other. As Peter Thiel says, “Every moment in business happens only once.”
Imagine if each creative production movie or music studio used Eden OS to coordinate and create the most helpful and awesome content possible. I could imagine there being thousands, millions, or billions of Edens used to make creative content and supercharge the collaborative creative process.
Imagine if this was combined with the collaborative creative process of HITRECORD, the platform for creators that Joseph Gordon Levitt started 10 years ago and recently raised 10 million dollars....
Enter HITRECORD.org
HitRecord is an amazing collaborative media platform, production studio, and huge creative community founded by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
It’s difficult to describe HitRecord because they do so many awesome and unique things, but it is basically a growing community of many thousands of creative people from all around the world that collaborate on creative projects and create awesome content together. They’ve been doing incredible work for over a decade and recently raised 10 million dollars to scale their production company into a technology platform where anyone can direct their own projects and collaborate to make all kinds of awesome content!
The way it works right now is that anyone can start a project (such as a song, story, video, etc) and ask for contributions. For example, you could start a project to make a story about the benefits of music and make requests for contributions to help make a great story. You could put up a few posts on the site to openly ask for writers to share stories about their experiences with music, voice actors to narrate the writing, illustrators to portray the story visually, actors to play a role in the story, musicians to provide a musical score, and video editors to edit everyone’s work into a well-produced short film. This collaborative production model and creative process is fantastic and it’s super entertaining and inspiring to see what they’ve done so far, but they have also been held back from much more awesome potential by traditional funding, payment, and monetary incentive systems.
The HitRecord company pays contributors half of the profits earned from large brand deals (such as their recent deals with Ubisoft, Firefox, and Sony) and they have paid over 3 million dollars to contributors so far, which is super helpful for many creative people and the world as a whole. However, the creative direction and payment amounts are ultimately determined by the HitRecord team (with some input from the community), the payments are all sent out in checks (which I imagine are unavailable for many people), and as far as I know the payments are only available for projects that are led by the HitRecord production company. HitRecord has done an incredible job of working with these limitations and has accomplished an amazing and unique success feat built an awesome community with paid contributors, but these limitations hinder the HitRecord community from scaling to its full potential and becoming so much more helpful to make the best experiences possible for everyone.
I would love to see HitRecord (and/or communities working with HitRecord) integrate with the EOS to supercharge and scale up the benefits.... Bounties, automated payments, community governance to allocate payments and make decisions about what content to use, amplification and curation of the most helpful content with tokenization...I could see this becoming one of the main processes for content creation and production. Many millions of contributors and amazing work with an infinite variety of experiences.....

Patreon and The Second Renaissance
Related note: I’m extremely inspired by Jack Conte, founder and CEO of Patreon and co-founder of the incredible band Pomplamoose, who talks about a “Second Renaissance” where we will see and create orders of magnitude more awesome creations and experiences than ever before. He says, “we are on the verge of the Second Renaissance of the arts making this is the best time in history to be an artist”
EOS can play a vital leading role in making this Second Renaissance into a reality. This will be extremely helpful for all forms of creative work and ideas, including fixing and exponentially upgrading our idea marketplace.
The Second Renaissance is Coming
“Creators, we are on the verge of the Second Renaissance of the arts making this is the best time in history to be an artist. The internet is just over 30 years old and it has revolutionized the way we live, although it hasn’t affected everyone in the same way. But things are changing and this is going to be huge for artists.” - Jack Conte
