Historical Overview
Building on the early successes of fractal democracy in the Eden Community, the ƒractally team released their groundbreaking whitepaper in 2022, providing comprehensive blueprints for implementing fractal democracy. This research showed how combining peer evaluation, nested consensus building, and sophisticated resource allocation could enable sustainable public goods funding while fostering genuine democratic participation.
The Genesis Fractal community organically formed within one week of the release of the ƒractally whitepaper and continued to meet for 30 weeks with 138 unique participants to experiment with the fractal democracy throughout 2022. During this time, participants produced foundational contributions to fractal democracy, formed lasting collaborative relationships, and recorded hundreds of hours of videos. The Genesis experiment ended on September 24, 2022 and the majority of community members concluded that it was a great success.
The Genesis Fractal provided crucial testing grounds for fractal democracy ideas through an intensive 30-week experiment where an average of 32 participants joined each week. You can learn more about these foundational initiatives in our article on The History of Fractal Communities. This intensive period of development established core patterns that continue informing implementation of fractal communities.
