Eden ƒractal events to incentivize, reward, and coordinate helpful contributions to Eden!
Below is a proposal draft for weekly Eden ƒractal events, as well as some considerations that may be helpful to explore.
The idea of the Eden ƒractal events is basically to use the ƒractally process to reward Eden contributors with both EOS from the Eden treasury and Eden Respect. These weekly Eden ƒractal events are easy to start and can be profoundly helpful for Eden & EOS!
Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments. Much more is coming soon 🙂
Proposal Draft
If this proposal is passed, Eden on EOS will start hosting weekly Eden ƒractal meetings and allocating value to Eden contributors in the following way:
- 100 EOS per week will be distributed to Eden contributors who participate in weekly fractal meetings
- EOS will be distributed to Eden contributors according to the fractally Fibonacci algorithm
- Contributions will be ranked by Eden members each week according to how much each participant is helping Eden
- The quantity of EOS (or percentage of Eden treasury) can be changed according to community preference
- Eden Respect will be counted with a similar off-chain process like ƒractally meetings on Saturdays
Benefits of Eden ƒractal Meetings:
There are many purposes & benefits of Eden ƒractal meetings. Eden ƒractal meetings:
- incentivize and reward contributions to Eden
- bring together the Eden community with fun & exciting events
- provide a space for Eden members to speak about their work to help Eden
- provide a space for Eden members to learn about how each community member is helping Eden
- provide an opportunity to record videos of great conversations, grow the media catalogue for Eden & EOS, and provide material for future video editors & creators to help tell the story of Eden
- help foster great relationships in the Eden community
Benefits of Eden Respect
- Eden Respect will be counted with a similar off-chain process like ƒractally meetings on Saturdays
- This can provide huge incentive incentive in addition to the EOS rewards. The ƒractally consensus mechanism & Respect earned during ƒractally meetings helps incentivize the participants to do so much great work for ƒractally. The EOS rewards can be relatively small and many Eden contributors may contribute much more when they can also earn quantifiable Respect from the Eden community.
- Off-chain Eden Respect can potentially serve as an initial ledger for on-chain Eden Respect token, but is super simple and doesn’t require any risk, decision making, or technical challenges associated with actually launching a token. The spreadsheet for Eden Respect will be like a scorecard for how much each person is helping Eden, which is certainly useful to allocate value to Eden contributors and grow Eden.
Example of EOS and Eden Respect Distribution
For example, suppose that there are 36 attendees during the first eden fractal meeting. The 36 people would split up into 6 random groups.
During a 45 minute meeting, the participants would rank the contributions to the Eden community according to who is doing the most to help Eden. We would do just one round of the fractal meeting, so the entire process would only require about 45-60 minutes.
With 36 attendees and 6 rooms, a total of 324 ‘Eden Respect’ would be distributed during the meeting. This is calculated by the following equation: (21+15+8+5+3+2) * 6 = 324
EOS tokens are distributed in the same proportion to Eden Respect. For example, suppose that there is a weekly prize pool of 100 EOS and 36 attendees. A participant who recieves a rank of 6 for their contributions would recieve 21 of 324 total respect, which is approximately 6.48% of all weekly respect. Therefore, this participant would recieve approximately 6.48% of the weekly EOS disbursement- or 6.48 EOS.
With the same circumstances, a participant who ranks #3 would recieve 5 Eden Respect and approximately 1.5 EOS (5/324=1.5%). A participant who ranks #4 would recieve 8 Eden Respect and approximately 2.47 EOS (8/324=2.47%). And so forth. Each participant would recieve both EOS and Eden Respect according to the same mechanism.
Of course, the disbursements quantity can be adjusted according to community preference. To create more incentives and greater earning opportunity, we could increase the weekly EOS disbursement. For example, if the total weekly EOS disbursement is 1,000 EOS instead of 100 EOS, then all earnings would be multiplied by 10.
Considerations
- The timing of Eden ƒractal events
- Events could be immediately before or after Bywire Eden town halls.
- These events may complement each other nicely and help provide exciting discussion topics during Town Hall events.
- Events could be at the same time as the current ‘Moving Eden Forward’ meetings
- Events could be decided by a new poll, like Joshua previously made for the ‘Empowering Eden Contributors’ meetings
- The EOS rewards could be higher in the future or as determined by an alternate proposal
- Starting low to make it very easy to start
- With 100 EOS per week, this would only cost the Eden treasury with about 5200 EOS per year. This is less than 5% of the Eden treasury and I think that the ROI would be very high for the Eden community.
- A low EOS reward also helps select for contributors who care to help without needing big immediate financial incentive
- A larger incentive would certainly help attract more contributors and contributions
- For example, if Eden raises more funding and eventually could do a 5-50k weekly EOS reward, then this could provide huge incentives for people to do amazing work for Eden & EOS with the word’s best process of allocating value to helpful contributors
- Of course, we can start small and then gradually scale up as it makes sense
- Reward could be proportional to Eden treasury rather than absolute. Ie each week 0.01% of treasury.
- This could work well with Michael’s proposal for Eden Circles. Perhaps this could be an additional circle or a part of the marketing & community growth circle
- The ƒractally meetings provide a simple, credibly neutral, and fun way to allocate the value to various community members who are helping Eden
- The Eden community could decide to apply a multiplier / inflation curve dynamic to the Eden Respect distribution to more heavily incentivize early participation, similar to how Bitcoin inflates with an exponential decay
- The EOS could distributed manually by Eden Chief delegates or someone who is appointed by chief delegates.
- Permission can be granted to appointee in a new EOS account with a smaller amount of EOS to streamline the payment process
- Perhaps Michael could help play a role in this as treasurer and communications secretary (?)
- All participants agree to a fractal contributor agreement.
- Videos can be recorded and shared.
- We could use the fractal contributor agreement for Fractally with some slight modifications or a different contributor agreement can be drafted specifically for the Eden community.
- It is important that each participant signs a Eden fractal contributor agreement on-chain so that there is verifiable proof that each participant agreed and the interaction can’t be misinterpreted by an overreaching government. Dan Larimer spoke about this at around 1:58 in this video
- We could use Hive accounts with the same basic system as Fractally or develop a different system with EOS accounts.
- Hive accounts are probably simplest and would enable us to start right away without any extra development needed. We could simply copy the arrangement of ƒractally.
- EOS accounts would eventually be best of course, but might require some extra work.
- Perhaps posts can be made with EOS accounts on Violet Garden, Bywire, or some other EOS platform instead of Hive?
- Or maybe Edgar and Edenia or other Eden devs could set something up fairly quickly?
- Douglas Butner also expressed interest in helping with something like this. See video below for recording of this conversation.
- We could ask Joshua or members of the ƒractally team about the tradeoffs between Hive accounts and EOS acounts.
- I’m not exactly sure what the benefits of Hive accounts are, but I think they are easier than EOS accounts because the ƒractally team set up a script to pull data from Hive blockchain.
- Hive accounts were also chosen for ƒractally because they’re easier to use than EOS accounts for newcomers, but that is not an issue for Eden members and EOS accounts are easiest for Eden members.
- Chuck shared exciting ideas about combining EOS distributed via fibonacci with EOS-backed Eden NFTs.
- Instead of simply distributing the EOS to participants, we could potentially fund ƒractal liquidity pools for Eden as suggested by Andrew Ware.
- You can click the link above to learn more details, see Andrews proposal/diagram, and watch a video where this is explained in detail
- This adds complexity and might be best to keep it simpler with just EOS distributions (which i think would very well), but this kind of liquidty pool could potentially great help the amplify power of community.
- You can watch the video below to hear me speak a bit about funding an Eden ƒractal, Andrew Ware explain this idea in detail, and Douglas Butner offering to help with technical aspects
