What is Boid?
According to the Boid Blog, Boid is a social supercomputer built on the EOS blockchain that is revolutionizing the way we contribute to scientific research. Boid harnesses the computing power of everyday devices to collaborate on research projects aimed at solving some of the world's most pressing issues. Boid launched in 2018 and has grown significantly with many exciting gaming and science initiatives, including Boid Avatars, Boid Metaverse and Boid Frontier. You can learn about these initiatives and much more in resources below, boid.com, and their introductory blog post.
Boid Avatars
According to the Boid Blog, Boid Avatars are an exciting new way to engage with the Boid ecosystem, allowing users to design and create unique NFT avatars. These avatars act as a gateway to the larger Boid Universe ecosystem and provide users with access to various experiences and opportunities.

EOS Hot Sauce #155
Everything EOS Weekly Report — June 13th, 2022
Written by Dan Singjoy while writing for EOSNetwork.com. You can read the full weekly report here and the story “Boid Avatars” below.
The Boid team released Boid Avatars, an exciting new NFT project where you can design your own unique NFT avatar and earn BOID when others mint your design. Boid Avatars enable you to design your own avatar by customizing & combining eight body parts: eyed, head, mouth, top, torso, legs, small-wings, and big-wings. As Eden member Jay Bosworth wrote in an insightful blog post, “It’s like Mr. Potatohead but with NFTs!”
In addition to designing your own avatar, you can also collect playful special edition avatars designed by the Boid team for many EOS community leaders, including Yves La Rose, Daniel Keyes, Zack Gall, Stéphane Bisson, Aaron Cox, John Heeter, and Daniel Larimer. This week Boid also announced the Ukraine Boid Avatar charity auction with flowery artwork to raise funds for supporting Ukraine. The avatars are receiving much high praise from many community members and several EOS community leaders are now donning their Boid Avatar in social media profile pictures, as you can see on the Twitter accounts of Zack, Daniel, and Stéphane.
Joining world class EOS powered NFT games such as Upland, the artful Boid Avatars are among the most comprehensive, expressive, and interactive NFT projects ever built on EOS. Collectors & designers can mint common or rare Part Pack NFTs with a variety of avatar parts on Boid’s site or purchase packs on secondary markets like Atomic Hub. Once acquired, Part Pack NFTs can be opened to reveal Avatar Part NFTs and Avatar Templates can be created on the design page by combining 8 Avatar Part NFTs together. Anyone can mint from Avatar Templates on the browse page by paying a template creation fee in BOID, which is determined by the the rarity rating of the parts used in the template. The template fees are used to both reward the Avatar Template creator and burn BOID to help foster the growth of the expansive Boid ecosystem.
In addition to providing playful ways to express yourself and potential profit opportunities, Boid Avatars act as a unique pass to participate in future Boid Universe ecosystem. Boid has been functioning as a social supercomputer on EOS to help solve the world’s biggest problems & questions since 2018. Boid makes it easy to connect your devices and use your computing power to contribute to big ideas, such as medical treatments to cure cancer, climate research, cosmological exploration, and machine learning to power the next generation of artificial intelligence. As you can see on their main website and whitepaper, Boid enables teams to work together to conduct scientific research with Boid Power, & earn the Boid token. Boid has been installed on over 7,000 machines and helped complete millions of tasks for countless crowdsourced research projects, as you can see on websites like World Community Grid & Folding@Home.
Now, the Boid team is building the Boid Universe to gamify the experience of collaborative scientific research, foster the growth of a prosocial gaming community, and make it fun for everyone to help solve the world’s most pressing issues for the benefit of humanity. With the power of EOS, gamers & researchers alike will soon be able to conduct critical research and play to earn in the beautifully designed Boid metaverse, games like Boid Void, and simulations like Boid Colony. Throughout the upcoming Boid Universe, Boid Avatars will provide access to unique experiences & opportunities to have fun with friends while creating positive global change.
You can learn more about Boid Avatars on their interactive website, Boid Universe website, the aforementioned blog post, and in a conversation with Boid lead developer John Heeter & Stéphane Bisson during this week’s EOS Fireside Chat. You can also watch the recent NFT Game Day interview with Evan from Boid on TheUplift to learn more about Boid Avatars and the various projects of Boid. Lastly, you can also watch a video walkthrough of the Boid Avatars and great overview of the Boid ecosystem in this week’s EOS Hot Sauce.
