OP Mainnet has saved Ethereum users billions in fees.
But Ethereum still doesn’t have internet-level scale.
We need a multi-chain solution that doesn’t fracture our ecosystems, our applications, or our ability to work together.
Many chains. One platform.
The Superchain is a horizontally scalable network of chains that share security, a communication layer, and an open source development stack. A permissionless system for deploying new chains to a shared network opens the door to massive scale, novel applications, and a new revenue model that rewards application developers for the fees their chains generate, and rewards protocol developers for the public goods they create.
Superchain technical explainer
Built on an OverPowered Stack…
The Superchain will be built on the cutting-edge OP Stack codebase, a modular development stack which sets the bar for decentralized infrastructure. It's fast, simple, and built to last. The OP Stack was built to serve as a reliable foundation for building chains--not just optimistic. Not just rollup.
...that’s proudly a public good
The OP Stack is fully Open Source public good. Revenues generated by OP Mainnet, and eventually the Superchain, are used to fund the public goods which enable it.
This isn’t just talk—we walk the walk. Ensuring that impact to the Collective is rewarded by profit to the individual means that the OP Stack will always stay winning. Summoning the Superchain, together.

Why build on the Superchain?
Harness the combined power of OP Mainnet and Ethereum’s rollup-centric scaling roadmap
Leverage best-in-class tooling & infrastructure via an Ethereum-Equivalent, OSS standard
Get rewarded for the value your apps provide via transaction fees
We chose to build Base on the OP Stack because of Optimism's alignment with Ethereum’s values of decentralization and unification of all rollup architectures.Jesse Pollak

What happens to OP Mainnet?
OP Mainnet isn’t going anywhere, and for now, it’s business as usual. In the long run, we envision it as an important coordination hub—one of the most critical pieces of the Superchain. This would mean that its responsibilities expand. For some applications currently on Mainnet, it might make sense for them to form their own OP Chains — so get in touch!
What does this mean today? What is ready now?
The Bedrock release of the OP Stack is the most immediate next step in enabling the Superchain, by productionizing a shared, modular development stack for chains to leverage. Ultimately, the Superchain code and featureset should seek constant improvement over the coming years. Check out the Superchain explainer to read more about the vision for the Superchain, and our current thinking about the order of operations for subsequent steps.
How can I contribute to the OP Stack?
Contributions to range from support on the development of the fault proof infrastructure, to shared bridging, to shared sequencing. Participation avenues include:
