How does ECOS related to ƒractally and Eden?
Does ECOS Compete with ƒractally?
The simple answer is no - ECOS does not compete with ƒractally.
The longer answer is that I don’t think that ECOS will compete with ƒractally and if there is any competition then I think it would definitely be a friendly coopetition to help each other improve.
There’s so much that remains to be seen about both ECOS and ƒractally so I’m not yet entirely sure how they will relate, but I imagine that most communities cooperating with ECOS will probably use the ƒractally software…
I believe that ECOS and ƒractally will be super complementary and will cooperate in a mutually beneficially relationship to help make the best experiences possible for everyone in the world!
One of the synergies that I’m excited about is how ECOS can serve as an educational guide to help everyone understand and experience the benefits of ƒractally.
ECOS can distill the benefits, rationale, and any essential knowledge about ƒractally in simple guides to help everyone start new fractal communities. ECOS can help get the word out about ƒractally and simplify any necessary learning curves to help everyone easily start empowering their community with ƒractally.
Another synergy that I’m excited about is how ECOS can serve as a guide to help communities explore helpful possibilities in the vast design space of ƒractal communities.
As Dan Larimer has mentioned, every ƒractal will have its own smart contract and will have the power to upgrade its smart contract. This power of smart contract upgradeability has the potential to be incredibly helpful for so many communities, but also comes with many decisions that could feel overwhelming for people and risks that could negatively affect communities if the wrong ‘upgrades’ are made. Community leaders will need great education, thoughtful consideration, and principled guidance to ensure that they make the right upgrades that will be most helpful for their community.
ECOS can provide detailed guidance about the potential benefits and tradeoffs of all smart contract variations and mechanisms of cooperation with ƒractally. ECOS can convey essential design principles and curate helpful educational resources to empower communities with the right knowledge to best cooperate with ƒractally.
Additionally, ECOS DACs such as Eden Creators may provide in-person support, well-produced video tutorials, and interactive educational courses to help all community leaders learn the most helpful tools and knowledge to empower their ƒractal community.
There are also many differences between ECOS and ƒractally.
One major difference that I see between ƒractally and ECOS is that ECOS seems to have a broader scope which includes any tools or knowledge that help communities cooperate, whereas ƒractally is more specifically focused on empowering communities with the next generation of DAC software.
While ECOS shares a big focus on DAC software with ƒractally, ECOS also provides more general functionality for any kind of community cooperation. For example, ECOS includes modules for social media workflows, collaborative video production techniques, Community NFT workflows, communication guidance, keynote and special events, community document management, liquidity payment models, and other collaborative creative processes. Much more coming soon!
With the combination of ECOS and ƒractally, communities can be far more empowered than ever … empowered in many different ways … cooperate in many different ways…. (Finish writing this better…)
One more thing I’ll add to this answer for now:
Mell @softwarefocus recently asked me a similar question during the recent Eden Delegates meeting.
Mell asked me if the weekly ƒractal ƒorums that I’m planning to propose with Eden Consortium would be competing with ƒractally (which wasn’t yet named at the time). The question was a bit different since it wasn’t asking specifically about ECOS, but the general ideas and sentiment about cooperating with ƒractally to help grow fractal communities is also completely true for ECOS.
You can hear our brief discussion about this from 1:28:24 to 1:30:00 in the following video:
Transcript (Paraphrased):
Q: If we’re going to be doing the same thing, is it going to be competing with [ƒractally]?
A: About ƒractal ƒorums competing with [ƒractally] - I don’t see it like that…
One- Friendly competition can be helpful and of course we’re all the same team and we’re all working together.
Two- This is a way to experiment with the Eden process. We have this amazing idea with Eden and ƒractal democracy. And we’ve had it for about a year now, almost a year. And we’ve done three elections.
Those three election are great, they’re awesome. I’ve listened to all of them and they’re super helpful, they brought people together, a bunch of great stuff came from them. But there’s only been three elections! The Clarion team was talking about how they want to do elections sooner so they can get more testing and feedback and learn more about it…
Rather than waiting for the full release of ƒractally in months from now and jumping right into weekly events, we can start doing them now and get all of that testing and who know what ideas would come out of it….”
And of course, these ideas could change. Just what I see so far…
There is also much more to include about this… such as mindware & software, specific examples of how ECOS Modules and templates can work with ƒractally, etc…
Please feel free to share any questions or comments. I would appreciate any feedback and would be happy to discuss!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 🙂

Launch ECOS.One
Consider launching ecos.one around the same time as Eden research.
- The visuals are ready.
- Much of the text is already written,
- for example in my response to James about ECOS cooperating system and in intro to ECOS post.
- Look up and curate all related good notes here
- This is definitely a good idea. It’s best to introduce these visuals and brands built with Eden now rather than later. Now is the right time. These visuals and proposals are ripe now.
- The topic of ECOS.one ties in well with Eden Research, Builders, Fractals, and Creators.
- Releasing it alongside these will increase the spectacle, utility, impressiveness, and helpfulness of all the other initiatives too
- The spectacle is important. It makes stories better. Great stories make life better and help coordinate communities to do great things.
- Releasing it now makes sense intrinsically and will help promote all of the other related projects
- Upload the first ECOS presentation here and maybe embed it. I didn’t ask for approval to share though so maybe don’t share it here . Watch some of it and consider.
- This could synergize well with the release of Eden research and Eden builders.
- And it’s very helpful for Genesis fractal and Eden fractal,
- especially in light of recent conversations with Felix.
- And more generally… several people have made scenes… there’s been probably about 100 people who have joined fractal meetings total, so that is something like 3% making scenes.
- And who knows how much more discomfort, embarrassment, heated disagreements… this is very helpful guide for as more people join fractally to help everyone cooperate more gracefully
- As Stratchecory said towards the end of bankless interview about coordinate, DAOs inspire/need/make us learn skills that we do not yet have and do need going forward
- Consider - review timestamps from interview with Patrick and listen to this. I could include some of the sports analogy and etc
- This cooperating system for social guidance to work with the fractally system is super helpful
- Find my recent note about this from a couple weeks ago about how computers are incredibly powerful tools, but need instructions or help to learn how to use it .
- Operating manual.
- Imagine getting a MacBook but having no idea how to use it .
- But much more complex because it’s both social and technical…This cooperating system for social guidance to work with the fractally system is super helpful

You can watch the video where I introduce Eden Creators, EOS Sages, DAPP Heroes, and Playtubas Global at DanSingjoy.com/edenvideos or DogmanLabs.com/videos.
There are four videos from the Eden Election on both of these sites. There are short clips at the top of the sites and the full video from the election is at the bottom.
Eden Creators was originally inspired by the desire to create awesome videos, but I soon realized how the processes to coordinate video production could be generalized to coordinate any other kind of helpful work.
With the collaborative processes designed for Eden Creators, any community can coordinate any kind of helpful work that we can imagine….
The exciting potential for this generalizable collaborative process inspired me to build ECOS.
ECOS is a cooperating system that empowers communities to cooperate, coordinate, and collaborate.
While traditional operating systems empower individuals to operate with individual computers, ECOS empowers communities to cooperate with community computers (such as EOS). The potential benefits of community computers are incredibly profound and ECOS can greatly help everyone in the world cooperate to make the best experiences possible.
